camp out!

last weekend we got to camp out with kay and rapper boy.
can you say, "ultimate fun weekend?!"
it definitely was.

so here are my list of must-haves while camping.
1.  bug spray. [there were a million of those nasty little things.]
2.  marshmallows. [if you're like kay, you'll burn them till they're black.  yuck.]
3.  sleeping pads. [cause if you forget them like us, you'll be up every hour.]
4.  jackets and blankets.  [it still can get pretty chilly up in the mountains.]
5.  WATER!  [you never know if your campsite won't have water.  ours was one of those.]
6. go with your favorite people.  [it's loads of fun!]

and enjoy the beautiful nature around you!

[plus, here's a little entertainment for you.]

recipe: easy summer salad

I don't know about you but in the summertime I'm all about yummy salad dishes.  Here is a basic one that I love!  It's quick, easy and definitely hits the spot.

 You'll need...
*1 package of noodles ( I usually just use egg noodles)
*1 cup of Italian dressing
*Olives (sliced in half)
*1 cubed green pepper
*Pepperoni or sausage ( as much as desired)
*Grated parmesan cheese ( I forgot to picture this)

First you boil the noodles

Then add in the chopped up ingredients

Stir everything together and there you have it!

This salad tastes best when cooled off in the fridge for a couple of hours!

Happy cooking,
Kay

flashback friday: fish time

Let's bring it back to summer two years ago.  Steve, Ashley and I were eating dinner at Costa Vida (shocker) when I told Steve that I wanted a fish.  After dinner we walked over to the pet store and picked out the cutest $0.10 cent goldfish.  Then we went and picked out a little bowl and some food and were on our way... we thought.  Well, turns out you can't put a tiny goldfish in a tiny bowl.  The not so kind worker told us that the fish will get some sort of disease.

We talked about what to do, and then Ashley and I came up with the best plan.  We weren't about to spend $40.00 on a new tank, so we ran out of the store and let Steve deal with it.  As we were running out we kept hearing Steve, "No! Don't leave me! You guys!" We made it out to the parking lot and were dying of laughter.

A couple of minutes later we see Steve running out of the store telling us to get in the car.  We asked him what he did with it and learned that when the lady wasn't working he just dumped the fish bag in the tank and ran out.  I guess we aren't responsible enough to be fish owners...

flashback friday: home ec

sorry to have desserted the blog this week.  i've been at a teaching conference, where i was lucky enough to bump into mine and kay's home ec teachers from high school.  they were really just awesome.  so here are my flashbacks from FACS class. (which we never seemed to have together...)

7th grade TLC - woodshop:
kay told this boy from my neighborhood who was severely shy that i liked him.  it was probably the most uncomfortable situation anyone's ever been in in their life.  also, she painted her bird house BRIGHT orange.  let's just say, if i were a bird, it probably wouldn't have been my first home.  but i do still have the leather keychain that she punched my name in.  cute.

11th grade foods:
so i never took this class, but kay did.  and every time i was in calculus i would see her poking her head in the door whisper shouting my name to come out and get whatever food she had made that day.  how she snuck out and i always got her food was beyond me....but i didn't mind.

sometimes we liked to hang out in the clothing room mirrors.
[yes, i'm wearing a hannah montana shirt....sue me.]

and when we were supposed to be doing service projects, kay would chase birds with scissors...

thank you to our FACS teachers for loving us enough to not get so mad at us every day,
and for inspiring me to be a teacher too.

oh, and if you really want a good story - ask kay about her quillow from sewing class....
